The Job Posting Pay Disclosure Index
How often 23 employers actually show a pay range on their own live job postings. We read 5,448 US listings on their public job boards on 5 October 2026. 61% showed a range.
Quick answer
Across 23 employers and 5,448 US job postings read on 5 October 2026, 61% showed an annual pay range. Cursor and Jane Street showed one on none of theirs. Publishing a range is not the same as publishing a useful one: the median published band in this sample spans 43% from its bottom to its top.
- Read the range on the requisition before you ask for a referral.
- If there is no range, ask the person referring you what the band is.
- A very wide band tells you little, so ask where in it your level sits.

Ranked by the share of US postings showing a pay range, lowest first. "Median range width" is the middle published band expressed as top divided by bottom, minus one, so 50% means a band like $100,000 to $150,000. Only postings our parser could place in the United States are counted; anything it could not place is excluded rather than guessed.
Quotable
Cursor showed a pay range on none of the 65 US job postings on its public job board, sampled 5 October 2026.
4 of the 23 companies measured showed a pay range on fewer than one in ten of their US postings. Sampled 5 October 2026.
Across 23 companies and 5,448 US job postings, 61% showed a pay range. Sampled 5 October 2026.
xAI publishes a range on most postings, but the median range spans 144% from bottom to top. Sampled 5 October 2026.
What this is not
This is not a compliance finding, and it names no lawbreaker. Pay transparency duties turn on the role's jurisdiction, the posting date, the employer's headcount and a set of exemptions that a public job board does not expose. A company can be fully compliant and still score low here, for example if its open roles sit outside the states that require a range. What this page reports is narrower and checkable: what the postings showed, on the date we read them.
Coverage is partial and it is biased. Only employers running a public Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby board can be read this way, and 24 of the 89 companies we track do. The rest use Workday, Taleo or an in-house system; their absence from this table means we could not measure them, not that they publish nothing. The sample therefore leans toward technology and finance.
Method
For each company with a public Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby job board, every live posting was read and classified by location. A posting counts as showing pay when its text or structured compensation field contains an annual USD range between $25,000 and $2,000,000. Range width is (max-min)/min. This measures what the posting SHOWS on the date sampled. It is not a legal finding: pay-transparency duties depend on the role jurisdiction, employer size and exemptions that a job board does not expose.
Companies on Workday, Taleo or in-house boards are out of sample, not silent. Percentages are suppressed below 8 US postings. Location is parsed from free text, so a posting with an unrecognised location is excluded rather than guessed.

Questions
What is the Job Posting Pay Disclosure Index?
A measurement of how often 23 employers actually show a pay range on their own live job postings. For each company with a public job board we read every posting, keep the ones located in the United States, and count how many contain an annual pay range. Sampled 5 October 2026.
Does a low score mean the company is breaking a pay transparency law?
No, and this page does not say that about any employer. Pay transparency duties depend on where the role is based, when the posting went up, how many employees the company has, and a set of exemptions that a job board does not expose. What is measured here is only what the posting showed on the sample date. Read it as information for your job search, not as a compliance finding.
Why does the range width column matter?
A posted range only tells you something if it is narrow enough to mean anything. A band that runs from its floor to more than double that floor is technically a published range and still leaves you guessing. The column reports the median width of the ranges that were published, calculated as the top of the band divided by the bottom, minus one.
Which companies are missing, and why?
Only companies with a public Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby job board can be measured this way. 24 of the 89 companies we track met that bar. The rest run Workday, Taleo or an in-house board and are simply out of sample, which is not the same as staying silent on pay. The sample therefore leans toward technology and finance.
How should I use this before asking for a referral?
If the company publishes ranges, read the one on the requisition before you ask, so you can pitch yourself at the right level. If it does not, ask the person referring you what the band is for that level. It is a normal question and an employee can usually answer it.
