Find Fellow Tritons at Your Target Company
Cold applications from UCSD grads sink into the same pile as everyone else. The honest fix: find a Triton already inside the company and let the shared campus carry the ask.

A plain LinkedIn search buries the people who would actually help you.
It ranks by prominence, so the most-followed, most-messaged names sit on top. FindWarmIntros surfaces the coworkers who share your school or a past employer - the people most likely to reply - and hands you a ready-to-send intro.
✍️ Ready-to-send intro“Hi - we both studied at [your school]. I’d love to hear about your path to a company you are targeting before I apply…”
… plus everyone else in your network who can put in a good word.
See who can refer you in - pick your target company:
Why a shared UCSD tie beats a cold application
A recruiter sees hundreds of applicants and no reason to trust any of them. A Triton already inside the company has a reason to help you: you walked the same Library Walk, survived the same Geisel all-nighters, maybe took the same CSE or Econ sequence. That shared context turns a stranger into someone worth a five-minute reply.
The goal is not to ask them to get you hired. It is to ask for one small, specific thing: a referral link, a 15-minute call, or an honest read on the team. Warm paths move because helping you is cheap, not because your ask is impressive.
How to find Tritons inside a target company
You are looking for the overlap between two lists: people who attended UC San Diego and people who work where you want to work. LinkedIn can do this if you search deliberately.
- Use the alumni tool. Go to the UC San Diego LinkedIn school page, open Alumni, and filter by 'Where they work' to your target company. This surfaces exact overlaps fast.
- Narrow by college or major. A Sixth College data science grad reaching another Sixth College data science grad shares far more than a generic 'we both went to UCSD' line. Specific ties get specific replies.
- Prioritize your era and adjacent roles. Someone who graduated within a few years of you, or who now does the job you want, can speak to both the culture and the hiring path with real detail.
- Check second-degree connections. If a mutual friend also knows the Triton, mention it. Two shared threads (campus plus a person) lift a reply rate more than either alone.
Where FindWarmIntros does the finding for you
The alumni-plus-company overlap is real work to build by hand, and ranking who is actually worth messaging is harder. FindWarmIntros is a free tool that takes your school and a target company, finds the real UCSD people already working there, ranks them by how reachable and relevant they are, and drafts a warm intro that leads with the shared campus. You still choose who to contact and what to say, but the tedious search-and-sort part is done.
Whether you use the tool or LinkedIn by hand, the rule holds: lead with what you share, make the ask cost 30 seconds, and never open with your resume.
Write the message so helping you takes 30 seconds
Open with the Triton connection in the first line, name the one thing you want, and make it trivially easy to say yes. 'Hi Priya, fellow UCSD grad here (Warren, class of 2021). I saw you are on the data team at Stripe. Would you be open to a referral for the analyst role, or a quick 15 minutes if not? Happy to send a two-line blurb you can paste.'
Offer the paste-ready blurb up front. When your ask is smaller than the effort of typing a polite 'no,' most people just help.
